ABOUT EDISON PARK READING TUTOR

Maureen Hehir                     


Reading Specialist M.A.Ed.

Learning Behavior Specialist, Type 1       

​

Maureen has worked in education for over 10 years.  She has served as a Learning Behavior Specialist, Reading Support/Interventionist, and English Language Arts teacher. Maureen has experience at all levels. Maureen is currently a Learning Behavior Specialist in a suburban junior high school.   

​

​Maureen graduated from National Louis University in 2009 with a Master of Arts in Teaching with a Learning Behavior Specialist Type 1 Endorsement.  Six years later Maureen became a certified Reading Specialist and earned an additional Master of Arts in Education.  

​

Maureen has received training in numerous evidence-based literacy interventions.  Maureen is most excited and proud of her Orton Gillingham Comprehensive Training.   Orton Gillingham is a multi-sensory approach to reading.  The "OG method" is commonly used with students identified with Dyslexia, however; all students benefit from this type of instruction.

 

Additional Interventions:  SLANT, Corrective Reading, Read Naturally, Seeing Stars, Words Their Way, and Kansas University Strategies.

 

Maureen loves working with families to enhance a child's academic success.

1:1 TUTORING

Research Based Literacy Intervention Provided

1:1 Tutoring is ideal for the student that has an identified reading disability, participating in a school-based MTSS intervention program, or would like to receive additional support throughout the school year.                                                                                                     Sessions are 60 minutes

SMALL GROUP SESSIONS

Targeted Reading Skills

Small group tutoring consists of 3-4 students working on similar reading strategies.  Students are given immediate feedback based on their individual needs as a reader and given specific, research based strategies to improve as an overall reader.                                                   


Sessions are 55 minutes.
